Terms of Service

1. Who we are

EdPrax ("we", "us") is an independent Community-of-Practice platform for Australian educators. By using the platform, you ("you", "the educator", "the member") agree to these terms.

2. Who can use the platform

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must be an educator in the broad sense described on our About page: a current or former classroom teacher, teaching aide, school leader, VET trainer, TAFE/university educator, homeschool educator, community educator, education researcher, or someone in an education-adjacent professional role.
  • You must agree to and abide by the Code of Conduct.
  • You must use your real-name account responsibly and not impersonate someone else.

3. Verification

We verify members in two ways:

  • Email allowlist: emails from institutional domains (.edu.au, .catholic.edu.au, etc.) are auto-verified.
  • Manual approval: other emails go to a manual approval queue where you may be asked for evidence of educator status (employment letter, homeschool registration, university faculty link, etc.).

We reserve the right to decline accounts, request additional verification, and revoke verification if circumstances change.

4. What you own and what you license to us

You retain copyright in everything you post. We do not claim it.

By posting content, you grant:

  • EdPrax a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, display, index, back up, and let other members view your content within the platform.
  • Other members a licence to view, save, and (per your chosen content licence) adapt your content. Default licence is Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0). You can choose a different licence per post (CC BY 4.0, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, or CC0).

Forks/remixes (when that feature ships): inherit the original licence and must attribute lineage.

5. What we never do with your content

  • Train AI models on your content for our own use or sell access to it for training.
  • Sell access to your content to third parties.
  • Show advertisements against your content.

6. What you must not do

The Code of Conduct lists prohibitions in detail. The headline ones:

  • No student-specific content.
  • No harassment, doxing, or discrimination.
  • No misrepresenting your identity or affiliation.
  • No platform abuse (vote rings, sock puppets, scraping).

7. Moderation and account actions

We may, at our discretion:

  • Remove, hide, or edit content that violates the Code of Conduct.
  • Warn, suspend, or ban accounts that violate it.
  • Unmask a pseudonym in serious documented cases (see the Code of Conduct).
  • Refuse service to anyone.

Moderation decisions are appealable.

8. Account termination

You may delete your account at any time via Settings. On deletion:

  • Posts under your real identity are anonymised.
  • Pseudonymous posts remain (unlinked from your identity).
  • Identifying account data is deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

We may terminate your account for cause (Code of Conduct violation) or without cause (e.g. platform shutdown), with 30 days' notice where practical.

9. Payments and subscriptions

Core membership of EdPrax is free. Some features are paid:

  • Community Pro — an optional subscription (currently A$29/month) that unlocks Pro features for a community you run.
  • Paid community memberships — some communities charge for membership at a price their organiser sets.

The following apply to all paid plans:

  • Billing is handled by our payment processor, Stripe. Prices are in Australian dollars and, where applicable, include GST.
  • Auto-renewal: subscriptions renew automatically each billing period until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your billing settings; cancellation stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for.
  • Refunds: you are entitled to a refund where required by the Australian Consumer Law. Beyond that, we handle refund requests reasonably and on a case-by-case basis — contact hello@edprax.com.
  • Price changes: we may change subscription prices with at least 14 days' notice before they apply to your next renewal.
  • Failed payments: if a payment fails, we may suspend the paid features until payment succeeds, without affecting your free account.

10. Availability and changes

We aim for reliable service but provide no uptime guarantee. We may add, change, or remove features. Material changes to these terms will be announced 14 days in advance.

11. Disclaimers

EdPrax is provided "as is". Content posted by members is not vetted by us before publication; we are not responsible for the accuracy of member-posted content. Always verify advice against your local context, school policy, and where relevant, your professional standards body.

We are not a regulator, employer, or professional standards body.

12. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Australian law, our total liability for any loss arising from your use of the platform is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the platform in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) A$100.

The Australian Consumer Law sets a non-excludable floor on this — including guarantees that paid services are provided with due care and skill and are fit for purpose. Nothing in these terms attempts to exclude, restrict, or modify those guarantees; where they apply, our liability for failing to meet them is limited (where the law permits) to re-supplying the service or paying the cost of re-supply.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Victoria, Australia. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.
